DPR bewildered by Kiev’s plans to re-write Minsk-2 accords two days after “Normandy” summit

Donetsk, Dec 12 – DAN. Kiev officials’ remarks stating the intention to re-write the Minsk agreements, made just two days after the “Normandy Four” leaders’ summit, cause bewilderment, because the Ukrainian president confirmed at the summit that the existing peace plan had no alternative, Donetsk People’s Republic envoy to the Contact Group talks, the Republic’s Foreign Minister Natalia Nikonorova said on Thursday.

Earlier, Ukrainian representative to the Contact Group political subgroup Alexey Reznikov said that the Contact Group would prepare proposals for the next “Normandy Four” meeting to amend the Minsk Agreements.

“Judging by a number of statements recently made by Ukrainian officials, Kiev has announced an unofficial context for the most ridiculous and absurd statement on the Minsk Agreements,” Nikonorova said in a statement received by the Donetsk News Agency.

“Otherwise, it is difficult to explain why Ukrainian authorities state the intention to amend these accords, just two days after the meeting of the “Normandy Four” leaders, where the Ukrainian president personally confirmed that the Minsk accords were binding and had no alternative,” she said.

The DPR diplomat said these remarks were self-initiated because the Contact Group will not work on changing the Package of Measures which makes up the groundwork for the Minsk process. Nikonorova also urged the Ukrainian negotiators to read the Paris meeting communique spelling out the actions towards the implementation of the Minsk Agreements, such as coordination of the legal aspects of the special status of Donbass.

“This will be the subject of the next meeting in Minsk, so instead of spreading fake news in the hard-bitten Ukrainian media space, we advise Ukraine to focus on constructive proposals towards the implementation of the political provisions of the Package of Measures,” the DPR foreign minister said. *jk
