DPR comes up with new initiative to create platform to look for missing persons

Donetsk, Nov 24 – DAN. Donetsk People’s Republic representatives at the negotiations of the Contact Group subgroup on humanitarian issues have again called for creating a platform to look for missing persons, DPR ombudswoman Darya Morozova said on Tuesday.

“During the talks in the Contact Group humanitarian subgroup, the DPR brought forward the initiative to resume the work on creating a consolidated platform to look for persons who went missing in connection with the fighting in Donbass,” Morozova said.

She noted that the development and launching of this mechanism was very important to all parties to the conflict. It will help step up the efforts in ascertaining the whereabouts of missing persons and identifying unknown bodies, and arrange interaction in exchanging DNA samples, she said.

Morozova also said that the proposal to create such a mechanism had already been voiced at the talks and that the DPR offered its road map for the project last year. “Back then, Ukraine accepted our proposals for review and promised to prepare its own vision of project implementation. However, no answer has come from Kiev representatives,” the DPR ombudswoman said.

A consolidated mechanism to look for missing persons is an absolutely humane task which cannot be speculated upon or politicized. “Therefore, I hope that Ukraine will not block the issue and that it will negotiate it,” Morozova said.*jk
