DPR commemorates late Alexander Zakharchenko, Republic’s Head killed two years ago



Donetsk, Aug 31 – DAN. DPR Government laid flowers to the memorial board to late DPR Head Alexander Zakharchenko, installed next to the House of the Government in Zakharchenko’s square, on the day he was killed two years ago.

A number of officials and members of the Young Guard – Yunarmiya patriotic youth movement took part in the commemoration event.

Other events to remember DPR Head are scheduled in the Republic.

Zakharchenko’s square is one of the most important places in Donetsk. It saw mass demonstration against the coup-d’etat in 2014 as protesters took control over the regional administration building (currently called the House of Parliament) demanding a referendum on self-determination. The Declaration on DPR independence was announced here later.

DPR Head Alexander Zakharchenko won the DPR Head election on November 2, 2014. Major General, he was injured several times during the war, and was awarded the Golden Star of the Republic’s Hero and other awards. He died in an explosion in central Donetsk on August 31, 2018. The 2nd department of the 5th directorate for counterintelligence of the Ukrainian security service has been identified as complicit in the murder.*ot
