DPR to launch war veterans support programme in 2021 – Pushilin

Donetsk, Oct 27 – DAN. The Donetsk People’s Republic will begin to implement a welfare programme for war veterans and their families next year, DPR Head Denis Pushilin said on Tuesday.

“Although we have no precise data on the number of militiamen, we’re already developing a programme to fund the expenditure on phasing in social benefits and guaranties for war veterans and members of their families,” Pushilin said in a statement published on his official website. “We plan to start implementing the programme in 2021.”

DPR authorities are currently taking citizens’ requests to issue documents confirming their status as war veterans. The decision on issuing such documents will be made by special commissions to be set up under government bodies. The Military Registration and Enlistment Offices are responsible for drawing the lists of persons who had taken part in fighting for the Republic and have no status of militiaman, he said.

“We also have to find out the names of all the unknown heroes of this war, pay tribute to the dead and support their families. In the nearest future I plan to hear reports by heads of government bodies on their readiness to implement the decree; I intend to personally supervise its implementation,” Pushilin said.

In December 2019, the DPR parliament approved amendments to the law on social protection of war veterans and the procedure to issue war veterans certificates. In October 2020, the DPR leader endorsed the procedure which was posted on his official website on Tuesday.*jk
