Etherington arrives to Donbass – OSCE SMM

Donetsk, Feb 5 – DAN. Mark Etherington, Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine, has arrived to Donbass on a working visit, Dragana Nikolic-Solomon, Chief of Press and Public Information Unit of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine said.

“Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine Mark Etherington is currently in Donetsk and Lugansk regions on a regular working visit,” she said.

His route details have not been made public.

The DPR People’s Militia said earlier Etherington is currently in Donetsk without providing further details.

Etherington served in the British Army’s Parachute Regiment from 1984 to 1991.

He later worked in a variety of conflict and post-conflict settings, including for the European Community Monitoring Mission during the conflict in the former Yugoslavia. He established the OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro, and was the Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo in 2002. He was provincial governor in Iraq for the Coalition Provisional Authority, and led the UK government’s planning team in Helmand, Afghanistan in 2005. He has also worked in Zimbabwe, Haiti and Somalia for the UK government’s Stabilisation Unit, and in Palestine and South Sudan.
