Geraschenko’s work in Minsk didn’t contribute to Donbass peace process – Morozova

Donetsk, May 16 – DAN. Irina Geraschenko’s work as Ukrainian representative in the Minsk subgroup on humanitarian issues did not contribute to a peaceful settlement of the Donbass conflict, Donetsk People’s Republic ombudswoman, DPR representative in the Contact Group humanitarian subgroup Darya Morozova said.

“Irina Geraschenko’s resignation as presidential envoy for peaceful settlement and representative in the humanitarian subgroup in Minsk is a logical follow-up of the political process related to the change of government in Ukraine,” Morozova said. “Petr Poroshenko’s team fully discredited itself both in the domestic policy and on the Minsk negotiating platform.”

Over the past few years, Ukraine showed complete lack of political will for a peaceful settlement of the Donbass conflict. “The regular ignoring of Minsk sessions by Ukraine’s official representative and the futile attempts to manipulate the negotiations did not contribute to the solution of problems facing the humanitarian subgroup,” the ombudswoman said.

Earlier on Thursday, Irina Geraschenko said she was stepping down as a Minsk talks participant. She made the statement in the course of the meeting of the Minsk Platform informal group of lawmakers.*jk
