Kravchuk’s economic ideas for Donbass look outdated – Bidyovka

Donetsk, Aug 4 – DAN. The proposals concerning “special system of governance for Donbass” brought forward by Kiev’s new authorised representative to the Contact Group Leonid Kravchuk look outdated and meaningless in the modern reality, Donetsk People’s Republic parliament speaker Vladimir Bidyovka said on his official Telegram channel on Tuesday.

On August 3, Ukraine’s first president, authorised representative to the Contact Group Leonid Kravchuk said that he was preparing proposals on a special system of governance for Donbass, in particular on expanding its economic and social freedoms. He also suggested bringing forward the idea to grant Donbass the status of free economic zone for discussion in Minsk.

“I believe that these are half-measures which were partially timely in 2014, but talking about them now makes no sense,” Bidyovka said. “Kravchuk operates the agenda that was relevant ten to 15 years ago, and this rhetoric now belongs to the distant past.”

Today, it is important that Ukraine fulfill the political part of the Minsk accords. “So that Kiev authorities finally have enough political will to observe the ceasefire accord and stop the strikes,” the DPR parliament speaker said.

“So far, Donbass has not seen Kiev’s making headway on this track, and Kravchuk’s statements only confirm our conclusions,” he said.

Ukraine’s first president Leonid Kravchuk was appointed Kiev’s new representative to the Minsk talks. He replaced Leonid Kuchma, another former president of the country. The Office of incumbent Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky reported on July 28 that Kuchma was withdrawing from the negotiations.

The package of tighter ceasefire control measures in Donbass came into force on July 27, 2020. A ban is imposed on the use of all armaments, including small arms by Ukraine, the DPR and the LPR, as well as on any offensives including the deployment of equipment to the frontline, mining and further organizing  of positions.*jk*pp
