Security subgroup agrees 13 mine clearance areas – JCCC
Donetsk, Jul 7 – DAN. The Contact Group security subgroup made headway at the talks on Tuesday in coordinating mine action in Donbass, the Donetsk People’s Republic Office at the Joint Centre for Control and Coordination (JCCC) reported.
“The negotiators updated and agreed 13 of 20 offered locations for mine clearance; the remaining seven will be considered at the next meeting,” the report said.
The DPR Office also noted progress in coordinating the addendum to the Framework Agreement on disengagement of forces and hardware. However, Ukraine continues to deliberately avoid the key issue on the group’s agenda, i.e. complete ceasefire on the contact line.
“Positive dynamics in certain issues certainly gives hope, but the contact line situation shows that the group is far from reaching its main goal,” DPR representative to the security subgroup Alexey Nikonorov said.
Earlier reports said that the four subgroups of the Contact Group for settling the Donbass conflict had talks via videoconference on Tuesday over humanitarian, political, economic and security issues. The Contact Group videoconference is scheduled for Wednesday, July 8.*jk
