Security subgroup reaches preliminary accord on “Christmas ceasefire” starting Dec 29

Donetsk, Dec 27 – DAN. The Contact Group security subgroup held a video conference on Thursday to negotiate a tentative date to introduce a new ceasefire in Donbass, Donetsk People’s Republic representative in the subgroup Alexey Nikonorov said.

“The working group on security has finished a video conference. The parties agreed a tentative date to introduce the ceasefire: 01:01, Moscow time, December 29,” Nikonorov said.

The DPR expressed the hope that the Contact Group would support the compromise date in a statement in the nearest future.

Earlier reports on Thursday said that the Minsk security subgroup had a video conference. The key agenda items were a new ceasefire and additional measures to ensure complete, stable and comprehensive truce in the region in the runup to the holidays.

At the previous Contact Group meeting in Minsk on December 19, the parties failed to negotiate a new ceasefire in Donbass starting December 22, proposed by the DPR and the LPR. OSCE special representative in the Contact Group Martin Sajdik suggested that the parties hold a video conference on December 27 to compromise on the date.*jk
