Ukrainian serviceman shoots at journalist who refused to give up his camera – Bezsonov

Donetsk, Apr 11 – DAN. A Ukrainian army 79th Air Assault Brigade serviceman severely wounded a journalist for taking footage of Kiev forces ceasefire violation, Donetsk People’s Republic People’s Militia spokesman Daniil Bezsonov said on Thursday.

“Yesterday, in the Vodyanoye settlement area (southern part of the front – eds Donetsk News Agency), an independent correspondent and volunteer A.Volkov tried to secretly film the 79th Air Assault Brigade’s opening fire at the Republic,” Bezsonov said. “They were spotted by Ukrainian servicemen who demanded that the journalist give up his camera which he refused. One of the servicemen fired a burst to scare him.”

“The correspondent was wounded in the incident and hospitalised in critical condition.

Earlier reports said that EU and U.S. journalists had urged the international community to take tough measures against freedom of speech restrictions in Ukraine.*jk
