Ukrainian servicemen detained for attempted weapons trafficking in Donbass – DPR intelligence

Donetsk, Sep 29 – DAN. Ukrainian military prosecutors detained three servicemen as they attempted to sell weapons to volunteers who had arrived in the conflict zone, the Donetsk People’s Republic militia reported on Tuesday.

“Military Prosecutor’s Office investigators detained  Senior Lieutenant Ivanchuk and Sergeant Majors Sabodakha and Melchenko from 56th Brigade 21st Battalion, who tried to sell two anti-tank grenade launchers, three Kalashnikov rifles and more than 5,000 5.45mm, 7.62mm and 9mm rounds of ammunition to volunteers,” the report said.

Servicemen of the above military unit had been repeatedly suspected of weapons trafficking. The investigators are now looking for other suspects who might be involved in smuggling weapons from the Joint Forces Operation zone, the DPR intelligence said.

In August, Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) agents reportedly seized unaccounted for weapons and ammunition at the Krasnoarmeisk railway station; also, two Sergeants were detained over illegal possession of 20 RGD-grenades, MOH-50 mines and Makarov pistol rounds at the Konstantinovka railway station, the DPR militia said.*jk
